What is Domain Parking?

Domain parking is a simple way of securing your domain name for later development. Often people will purchase a domain before they are ready to use it and therefore the domain will be parked until needed. Domain parking usually consists of a single page which may have an ‘under construction’ or ‘coming soon’ sign. Domain parking is usually free from the company that the domain was originally purchased from because there is very little cost in hosting a parked domain.

Domain parking can have various other uses including:

• Guarding a domain against cyber squatting
• The parked page can be used as advertising space
• Securing the domain for reselling purposes

Before parking a domain there are a couple of considerations to take into account:

• It is important that the buyer retains all of the rights to the domain once the domain is no longer parked.
• Some companies will charge for a domain to be transferred.
